The Race is On

The Race is On

Today a friend and I went to the races. Going to the races was one of those things I’ve always wanted to do, but never actually done. I won $7.00 from the horse in 2nd place (pink stars on the jockey’s jacket, that’s my description of the horse in second place in this photo, not the name of the horse). Best $2.00 I’ve ever spent.

The End of Project 365

After much serious thought I have decided to end my project 365. Now that I have a new job I don’t have as much free time to go out there and take photos every day and then update the blog. Also my new job involves a lot of travel, which will give me great opportunities to take photos of new and interesting places, but just not the time or ability to upload on a daily basis.

It’s definitely not the end of the blog though!

When I do get the chance to take photos and upload them I plan to write about it in the blog so people will still be able to see what I’ve been up to.

To those of you who did check in regularly… thank you and please do come back when you get the chance.

Day 61

Day 61

My First Day. Today is my first day at my job in the city. (Well really it’s my second first day, last week I was in Wellington.) Today I got to meet the people I am working with, found out where I would be sitting, what sort of a view I have (it’s fabulous). I also got to go for a drive out to Albany and Henderson.

Also it was my first day of trying to catch a bus to work (well from where I live now at least) and it was so easy. I walked 5 minutes to the bus stop, the bus turned up after only 5 minutes of waiting, I got a seat and it zoomed into the city in about 15 minutes. This meant I was 45 minutes early for work, loads of time for a coffee. Catching the bus home was even easier, 2 minutes walk from work to the bus stop, the bus was waiting for me when I got to the bus stop, I got a seat no problem and it only took 20 minutes to get home WOW.

Today’s photo is of the stunning sunrise that greeted me when I woke up this morning.

Day 57

Artwork at Night

Te Papa and Monet. This evening I went to Te Papa with my friend Michelle, who flew down from Auckland specially. How cool is that? Currently Te Papa is hosting the famous Monet & the Impressionists exhibition usually housed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Luckily while we were there the wonderful Maggie Barry gave a talk on Monet, his garden at Giverny and his art. The exhibition was marvellous.

This photo is of some very cool art work outside Te Papa. It was cool in the daytime, but when I saw it lit up at night time it was awesome.

When I compare this city to Auckland it’s like the Mayor of Auckland said let’s get rid of all the historical old buildings in the city and build loads of new stuff. Then 20 years later all that new stuff is just old and ugly. While at the other end of the North Island, the Mayor of Wellington said we don’t want to be trendy and cool, our really old buildings must be saved and restored. So 20 years later in Wellington they have a city to really be proud of.

Don’t worry I still love Auckland, it’s just that right now I’m truly enjoying and appreciating my time in Wellington. Today’s photo is of a street (Hill Street I think) next to the parliament buildings where the late afternoon sunshine made this bunch of moths appear to glow.
