Day 35

What’s in the box?   I got a new phone today.  I have been waiting a long time for my contract with Vodafone to end so I could switch to Telecom.  I wanted to play with the phone so badly, but I waited patiently and charged it up fully before I actually turned it on.  While waiting I got the instructions out and learnt about the many things it can do and how to do them.

Funny thing is, by the time I went to bed I still didn’t know how to make a phone call with it, but I do know how to: enter contacts, use the touch screen, start Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint, take photos or videos, create text messages and much much more.  It’s so cool, I just can’t wait to use it.

Mitre 10 Mega.  On the weekend I went to Mitre 10 Mega to buy a couple of things. Yesterday morning I pulled the receipt out of my wallet to put it with the other receipts and while I was doing this I checked it, coz it seemed to be far too much for the couple of the things I had bought. That’s when I discovered I had been double charged for two items. Either the check out operator swiped the items twice mistakenly or the machine read it twice. Either way it’s appalling and from now on I will be checking these things more carefully before leaving any store.

I went all the way to Mitre 10 yesterday after work before going out for dinner, explained my problem and when I went to show the guy my receipt I couldn’t find it (I’d left it at work). I was really embarrassed, but went back today anyway.

The manager is going to play the video (later) of that transaction to see if it’s true. I hope the video can show this happening, as I really don’t have any proof that I did not buy two hose joiners and two bottles of ant bait sand. Just how many ants and hoses could one person have?

Wildfire.  Had dinner at Wildfire Takapuna with a group of people I used to work with back in 2007. It’s so cool that we have been able to stay in touch. The meal was great… all the meat you could possibly eat in one sitting. When I got home after dragging my huge belly up the stairs and on to the couch I decided I better go for a walk to get rid of some of the excess baggage I gained at dinner. I actually managed to go for a quick power-walk, but I did wait till it was dark so nobody could see me.

Blowing Bubbles

Blowing Bubbles.  Went to Mum & Dad’s for lunch, it was my niece’s birthday yesterday so we had presents today. I got this bubble stuff for Xmas, so I thought today it might be fun to take photos of bubbles but it’s really hard. The camera isn’t sure what to focus on. If you check out my Flickr you can see the only good pic of a bubble I did manage to get.

MOTAT.  I got to take my students to MOTAT today coz the van is going up north tomorrow and the boss said it would be our last chance to go somewhere in it. After enjoying all the fascinating exhibits, getting lost in the mirror maze and having a huge laugh at our reflection in the “fat” mirror, we had a picnic lunch in Western Springs. What a cool day we had.

Garden Lights.  I put these lights up in my garden at Xmas time, but now I don’t really want to take them down. The cool thing is they are solar powered so I’m not wasting power, but if I leave them up will they wear out? If I put them away I guess I’d have to remove the rechargeable batteries which means removing the backing and waterproof seal, which doesn’t look easy at all. I guess I’ll have to leave them up till I’ve made up my mind.
