Auckland Domestic Airport

Flew to Wellington on Friday for a meeting. Had to fly with Jet Star to Wellington and Pacific Blue back to Auckland.

I’ve never flown with Jet Star before and I hope I never have to fly with them again. From the minute I was told I had to be at the airport a whole hour before departure to the minute I got off the plane I was not impressed.

There are many reasons why Air New Zealand is more expensive, but they are worth it.

My friend Nicky went swimming with the sharks at Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World. It’s an experience you can pay to do, but no amount of money could be paid to me to get me to do it.

While I was there I got to take some photos of the penguins (I love Penguins) but trying to focus the camera through a wet snow buggy window is not that easy and most of the photos didn’t come out very good. Still it was great fun.

Today I flew to Rotorua for the day (for work). The airplane I flew on was definitely one of the smallest planes I’ve ever been in. I’m sitting at the back of the plane (seat 10A) I could watch the pilot changing the controls even from the back of the plane.

The view when landing back in Auckland through the pilot’s window was amazing, we could see the landing lights… now that was cool.

This weekend I went to Lake Pupuke in Takapuna to get some shots of The Pumphouse. It was really cold down by the water and the weather and light wasn’t really the best. However, I did manage to get a couple of great shots of this Kingfisher in a tree by the Arthouse near the lake.

Every morning on my way to work on the bus, I get to see this amazing skyline. This week the sun has been at the perfect angle for lighting up the windows as I travel in to work .

This inspired me to get up early on Saturday morning to try and photograph the spectacular sight. I made it just in time.

After that I went over to the Viaduct Basin to photograph some of the wonderful buildings there. It’s a great place to be early on a Saturday morning. I felt like a tourist.
