Something Different

Thought I would try something different today. A video.

Today was one of those days where it’s great to live and work in Auckland city. The weather was perfect and downtown Auckland was busy with loads of tourists. A couple of us from work walked down to the waterfront at lunchtime to look at the ship and try out “video” for my blog. It’s not a long video coz I had to chop the ending where the pontoon I was standing on started to rock.

Just down the road is a huge area of bush walks. Because it is weigh in tomorrow in the biggest loser at work, I decided I have to go for a walk no matter what the weather is doing. I also looked at a map and tried to figure out a way to walk without having to walk up a hill for too long.

I discovered I could walk through the bush and end up further up the hill but not too far and it looked flat on the map, so that’s what I did.

I couldn’t believe how beautiful the bush is and I walk past it all the time but never knew. There are proper landscaped tracks, huge kauri trees, flowing rivers, little waterfalls and bridges. There were several alternative routes I could take, and at one point I didn’t know which way to go, but thanks to my trusty iPhone (Google Maps application) I could see where I was and which path to take… Way Cool!!!

Now if I have to pay a penalty tomorrow at weigh in I think I will quit… that was a huge walk.

Went for a big walk along Cheltenham beach and up North Head with a friend this morning.

The weather was perfect and gave me a real excuse to try out the cool application for taking panoramic shots with my iPhone.  (Click the image for a better look.  Once on the Flickr web page, click the All Sizes link at the top of the image.)

We also went for a walk around Fort Takapuna today. Did you even know there was such a place? It’s near Bayswater.

High Tea in Orbit

Yesterday I went up the Sky Tower with a friend to enjoy “High Tea in Orbit”. It’s a proper afternoon tea service in Orbit,  Sky Tower’s revolving restaurant. It was a truly luxurious experience, with everything tasting absolutely divine, while enjoying the BEST views of Auckland without all the crowds.

Also… (back on the ground) I finally got a car stereo that plays more than one radio station. I had no idea till after it was installed and I was reading the instruction manual, that there are stations in Auckland that actually broadcast data to your radio enabling it to display the name of the station you’re listening to, PLUS the name of the song. How cool is that?
