Tomatoes and the phone call. I got home from work today and there was a message on my answering machine from a friend wondering how my tomatoes are doing. So I took a picture to upload to my blog so she can see.
I’m actually wondering when to pick them! So if any of you out there reading this know when is the best time to pick them, please let me know.
Cheers
My friend checked out the photo and she said hers are much bigger than mine, in fact she reckons she’s got one as big as a grapefruit.
I told her I didn’t believe her, so she’s going to take a photo. LOL what’s happened to us? Now we’re comparing the size of our fruit like a couple of old farmers competing at the county fair.
Yours look the same size as mine. But I have no ripening ones yet, must be the benefit of living further north.
You pick them when they turn completely red, as long as they are more orange than red it pays to leave them on plant. When you do pick them pick them cut them off with a bit of the vine attached, this will mean they keep their flavour a lot better. They should then be stored at room temperature as puttign them in the fridge removes a lot of the goodness. If the taste a bit bland when you first try them cut down the watering amount by half, this will sweeten them up.
Wow – I sound like a tomato expert… lol
